PAINTINGS

MODERN BEAUTIES

The early paintings (1) in this series emerged from collages and watercolours and are a depiction of contemporary female beauty presented within a narrative structure, addressing themes of identity, celebrity and gender.

The later figurative work (2) sometimes incorporates text within the image and plays with notions of self/portraiture and identity, exploring polarities of beauty, adornment, vulnerability and trauma.

More recently, fabric paintings marry cut, swathed and draped fabrics with abstract/semi-abstract paintings beneath.  Playing with texture, colour and femininity, they make tongue in cheek reference to the work of Rococo painters such as Fragonard and Boucher.
